I attended a panel discussion at a local university tonight that was moderated by my sister Robbyn. There were lots of interesting issues discussed, but I’ll pass along just one quote, shared by Dr. Julie Hanks, a marriage and family therapist. She identified it as a favorite, by writer and speaker Byron Katie:
“When you argue with reality, you lose, but only 100% of the time.”
Of course we do. If we stop to think about it, we know that. Yet surprisingly, we still have the arguments. Hearing it tonight, I wondered what kind of argument I’m currently having–what I’m trying (and failing) to convince Reality of. If I’m honest with myself, my efforts would be much more productively spent in trying to get myself on board with what reality has to show me.
